The countdown has officially begun. It is slightly over five months before the hiatus is officially over and I for one will not be participating. Yes, I did try to get tickets in the lottery and yes, I thought as a local Vermonter only miles away from “The Barn” that I would be shown some form of bias in the selection process. Needless to say, my hopes were dashed.

They have announced a few more dates during the month of June and I know fans in the North Country certainly hope they will not be forgotten in the scheduling after the mud bath that was Coventry. A late summer Phish festival in Vermont. Sounds good to me. 

Anyway, enough of the rambling here is the Track of the Day. Oh yeah, fast forward the track to the six minute mark, let it build (enjoy the simplicity of the keys at the 6:30 mark) for a minute or so and off you go. Enjoy!!!

Yet, at Bolton Valley (where I reside) most of the residents are not satisfied with the snowfall this year. Anyway, to make a long story short, we are getting “our” snow tonight. After this storm we could be approaching 200″ of snowfall. Anyway, As I sit and stare out of my window the onslaught of snow this evening has led me to my first “Weekly Gaze”. Yes, sorry attempt for a name, I know. If it bothers you, well, send me some suggestions. Believe me, I welcome them.

The new album Five Interstates (listen) is a wonderful listen. Progressive bluegrass at its best. It is the bands fourth album and the first with new member Anders Beck (dobro). Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth produced the album.

The snow is falling in Vermont and as it softly blankets the landscape I always seem to turn to Neil Halstead’s Sleeping On Roads. It is one of my favorite albums and in my opinion an audiophile essential.  This album will grow on you more and more with each listen. A must listen indeed.

What happened to Ray Barbee? The one time skate phenom has, in my opinion, put out some exceptional albums in the past, but seems to be on an extended hiatus.

As one of the first African-American pro skaters, Barbee was undoubtedly one of the best and most fluid street skaters in the late 80’s/early 90’s.

Now he has flawlessly transitioned into a professional musician and his creative ways once again continue to shine.

Check out a few of my favorite tracks from his two releases, Triumphant Procession and In Full View.

Monday’s Are Beat

Mark Farina’s sixth installment of his astounding Mushroom Jazz series is potentially one of his best. He has made a name for himself over the last 15 years through building San Francisco’s house scene. The album is downtempo at its best and a necessary listen for fans of jazz, house, hip-hop, soul and R&B. The man has been working on his craft since he was 15 years old and his efforts are eloquently displayed on his latest album.
