Precious Bryant - The Truth

I have had this on my list for a few days now. I was flipping through the channels last Friday and caught the end….okay I am going to stop right there. The karma train is catching up to me. Let me start over. Last Friday, at 9 EST I was watching Friday Night Lights, yes, I admit it, Friday Night Lights, and I happened to catch a very good tune at the end of show - Precious Bryant, “The Truth”. I kept rewinding and rewinding and then decided to scour Rhapsody to see if I could find the artist and the tune. After about a fifteen minutes I narrowed it down to a few tracks and then finally found the track I was looking for. I love Rhapsody. They have absolutely everything I would ever want to hear, okay minus a few albums and artists, but for the most part I have an incredible catalog of music at my fingertips. Ipod, no thanks, but I digress.
Anyway, back to “The Truth”. The title track of the album is wonderful. You have to check this one out.

Tony Allen, a Nigerian born composer, songwriter and influential drummer pioneered (along with Fela Kuti) the Afrobeat movemen. He is certainly one of the most influential drummers of our time.
Afro Disco Beat contains his first four Afrobeat inspired albums in one package. Ten tracks with jams that extend from 8 to 17 minutes. You can’t help but dance or at least tap a toe or two.

I often reminisce about my days in Flagstaff, AZ. Seven wonderful years after I graduated from University of Oregon were spent frolicking about in the ponderosa pines and beyond.
The music scene there left much to be desired (although it has changed drastically for the better since I left for Vermont several years ago). However, one the bands that was a mainstay was Warsaw Poland Brothers. Anyone who has lived in Arizona for an extended period of time knows what I am talking about. Honestly, I was always surprised that a major label (or at least a mid-major) never picked these guys up. Extremely talented with an abundance of energy during their live shows the guys seem to fly under the radar. I haven’t kept up with them since the move, but I often wonder if they will ever get the chance they deserve.
Battle Ska Galactica is one of their better albums (altthough I hapen to thoroughly enjoy them all) and only one of two that Rhapsody currently has on the site. If only we could get a few more added to the site (Rhapsody editors are you listening) for our listening pleasure.

Rhapsody recently added a new album which includes one of my all-time favorite tracks, James Brown’s version of Georgia on My Mind. The album is Live -Try Me and as a fan of live music it has quite a few classics.
The aforementioned track happens to be one of my favorite all-time tracks on any live album. It starts out slow, but given a chance I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the ending. Check it out!
For some reason Wordpress isn’t working with me today. It could be the rust that has built up since my last post. From here on out I will be posting at least two to three times a week so stay tuned.

Yes, I had this album or should I say cassette tape back in high school.
The Stone Roses title track, Fool’s Gold is the reason you listen to this album. The 9 minute plus, groove heavy tune, is worth the listen. Just think 1989 and you will start to appreciate the forward-thinking of this album.
The album tops NME’s of 100 Greatest British albums so the album is no slouch. Check it out.
